Today Brenden and I took full advantage of me feeling better from my surgery that we got all for most of the day. We actually did last Saturday too, but I forgot the camera.
The day started at the Train shop with Daddy. They are going out of business so Brenden got some new trains. Trains he has been wanting... Flynn, the fire engine with his tanker to Brenden's right. That is Belle right in front of Flynn that Brenden got from Daddy just because. He also got Emily, who is the green one to Brenden's left with her tender. They were 40% off so the kid got more than what he normally would. The other trains on the track he has had for awhile.
After the train shop we ventured to the library where we have spent most of our Saturday and Sunday's this past winter. He loves it there. Today, no so much. We didn't stay very long.
It was lunch time but Brenden had other plans, the Wild About Animals event going on today. All he kept saying was "animals" "animals" "animals" so we went. This year Brenden surprised me. We went last year he is has always been funny about touching animals. This year, he couldn't get enough of the petting. I thought he was going to curl up with the bunny rabbits, the big bunny rabbits...sorry this was the only good shot I could get since I was trying to keep Brenden from laying on the ground beside them.
Then we saw the camel. Again he amazed me by wanting to be right at it's face and he even wanted to pet it.
Then horses. He saw people riding them and all I heard for the next 15 minutes was "horse, Brenden ride". Where does he come up with this stuff. He wants to ride the horse???? So I left him...what was I going to do, say no to a kid who usually seems so funny around animals and never wants to get to close to them?
There were also some goats, sheep, llama, chickens, ducks, turtles, porcupine and all sorts of different animals. We enjoyed a nice burger and shared a Pepsi, got a balloon (he choose blue so for today that must be his favorite color, it changes daily or even sometimes through out the day), ran up and down the bleachers and even got to see a falcon. He really wasn't interested in the falcon unless it got flustered and started flapping it's wings then he wanted to hold it and pet it but no go on that. That's okay. A falcon I thought, really Brenden, you want to hold a flapping falcon...what has gotten into this kid.
Finally the Easter bunny caught his eye or maybe it was the lady standing beside the Easter bunny with the big basket of candy. He saw it even before I knew what was going on. So why would the Easter bunny be any different than anything else today. He ran right over to him like he knew him forever. Again, unless he knew if he did talk to the Easter bunny he got candy which wouldn't surprise me. The kid doesn't forget that is for sure.
After all this, he was so over stimulated that he could barley focus on what I was saying so I knew it was time to call it quits and head home. No biggy since I was exhausted.
Alan got us tickets to the Spay-ghetti dinner held by PAWS tonight. Let me just say, the gave me so much spaghetti that I could get 3 meals out of it. The highlight of the spaghetti dinner was Brenden. As I usually do I left him take his Veggie tales bag filled with trains since I knew we was going to be sitting down eating and I know how he is. Not much eating but up and down, can't sit still for him.
While I was waiting for Alan's to go box, this nice older gentleman was talking to Brenden asking him his name and how he was. Without missing a beat, Brenden looked at the guy said "Brenden, trains". The guy looked at me and I explained he is so excited because we went to the train shop today and he got some new trains. Then Brenden takes off goes back to our table and gets two trains, Flynn and Emily that he just got today. He brought them over to the guy showed him the trains and told him their names. He didn't just bring them over, he gave them to the guy to actually hold. For anyone that knows Brenden, getting him to share and share something that he holds very dear to him, especially something new, is like the worst thing ever. I usually never even try to get him to share something new because it ends in a meltdown.
Today has been a very exhausting day since I am still recovering from surgery but yet so beautiful to see Brenden blossom. It seems like it happens all at once and on the days I least expect it. I am just amazed at how he keeps advancing and learning despite his difficulties in certain area.
It's been a beautiful day and I wouldn't trade it for anything!
